Kaharagia rejects President Donald J. Trump’s executive order renaming Lake Ontario as “Lake America”. We will not use that name.
Lake Ontario is shared by Canada and the United States. It is not the President’s property to rename. Washington can tell its own agencies what to print on a map, but that decision binds no one else.
This is another tantrum dressed up as an executive order. Last year it was the Gulf of Mexico. This year it is Lake Ontario. A President does not become stronger by picking fights with maps and neighbours, and the office does not make this behaviour any less childish.
Kaharagia did not recognise the attempted renaming of the Gulf of Mexico, and it does not recognise this one. Lake Ontario remains Lake Ontario.
