Statement on Iran and the Right of the Iranian People to Self-Determination

Statement condemning the use of force by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran against civilians during nationwide protests. Kaharagia affirms the Iranian people’s rights to peaceful assembly, free expression, and political participation, reiterates that it does not recognise the current governing authority in Iran as legitimate, and calls for an immediate end to violence, the release of peaceful detainees, and the restoration of communications. The statement emphasises that Iran’s political future must be determined solely by its people, free from both internal coercion and external interference.

The state of Kaharagia condemns the use of force by the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran against civilians during nationwide protests across Iran. Reports of killings, mass detentions, and the intentional restriction of communications, including internet shutdowns, raise serious concerns under basic principles of human rights and lawful governance.

Kaharagia affirms that the Iranian people possess the right to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, and participation in public life. The suppression of these rights through violence, intimidation, and censorship cannot confer legitimacy on any governing authority.

Kaharagia further affirms that it has never recognised the Islamic Republic of Iran as the legitimate governing authority of Iran. This position reflects a rejection of rule maintained through coercion and the sustained denial of political rights, and does not constitute hostility towards Iran as a civilisation or its people.

Accordingly, Kaharagia calls for an immediate end to violence against civilians, the release of individuals detained solely for peaceful protest, and the restoration of communications and access for independent observation.

Kaharagia affirms that the political future of Iran must be determined by the Iranian people alone. Any form of foreign interference or manipulation of Iran’s internal affairs for external advantage is rejected as incompatible with the principle of self-determination.

Kaharagia stands in support of the Iranian people’s pursuit of a government chosen freely, governed by law, and accountable to those it rules.
