We express solidarity with the people of Nepal, especially the young citizens who have exercised their right to peaceful protest to voice legitimate grievances. Public authority is a trust granted by the people; the first duty of any government is to serve the people, not to rule over them.

We are deeply saddened by the reported loss of life and injury. We call for restraint by all parties, swift and independent investigations into the use of lethal force, and accountability where it is due. Fundamental freedoms, of expression, assembly, and a free press, must be safeguarded if public confidence is to be restored and maintained.

We encourage an inclusive national dialogue that addresses corruption and the broader concerns raised by Nepal's youth, conducted within the rule of law and with respect for human dignity.

We also pray for the peace of Nepal and the prosperity of the Nepalese people. May those who mourn be comforted; may wisdom guide Nepal's leaders; and may the courage of Nepal's citizens be met with justice and good governance.
