On the occasion of the National Day of the French Republic, I have the honour to extend to Your Excellency my warmest greetings and sincere congratulations.
France has given to the world a civic tradition, a body of law and a literature that continue to shape public life well beyond her own frontiers. I take the opportunity to convey my respect for that inheritance and for the Republic’s part in the community of nations, and to wish the French people every good fortune in the year ahead.
