Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Thailand.
Thailand is a well established destination with extensive tourism infrastructure, and conditions in the principal visitor areas have stabilised. Petty theft, bag snatching and scams involving vehicle rental deposits and gem purchases remain the most common problems in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and the southern islands. Road traffic accidents, particularly involving motorcycles, are a leading cause of injury to visitors and helmet use is strongly advised. Travellers should continue to avoid the far southern provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla, where a separatist insurgency persists and a separate regional caution applies. Medical facilities in Bangkok and the major cities are of a high standard. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Thailand with normal precautions.
