Saint Lucia — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution when travelling to Saint Lucia due to crime.
Saint Lucia remains a popular Caribbean destination known for the Pitons, rainforest interior and beach resorts, but violent crime including armed robbery and homicide has risen and now occurs in areas frequented by visitors as well as in residential districts of Castries and Vieux Fort. Police response capacity outside the main towns is limited and cases are not always resolved quickly. Travellers should avoid isolated beaches after dark, decline to display valuables, and use hotel safes and licensed taxis. Driving is on the left and mountain roads are steep, narrow and poorly lit. The hurricane season from June to November brings a risk of tropical storms and flooding. Medical care at Owen King EU Hospital in Castries is adequate for routine needs but complex cases require evacuation. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution and remain alert to their surroundings.
