Do not travel to South Ossetia due to Russian occupation, crime, and civil unrest.
Do not travel to South Ossetia. The region is occupied by Russian forces, the de facto authorities are not internationally recognised, and crime and civil unrest present serious risks. The administrative boundary line is closed to most traffic and attempted crossings can result in detention, documents issued in the region are invalid for onward travel, and no consular assistance of any kind is available. Travellers who enter may also face prosecution under Georgian law.
