Do not travel to Uganda. The Ebola (Bundibugyo virus disease) outbreak declared in the region in May 2026 has spread into Uganda, and the World Health Organization has declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Treatments certified for other Ebola species are of limited use against this strain, and containment measures, including sudden district-level movement restrictions, can be imposed with little warning. Violent crime such as armed robbery, home invasion, and sexual assault is common, terrorist groups have carried out attacks in Uganda, and protests can develop quickly around political events. Consular capacity in the country is reduced by the outbreak. Travellers who remain should avoid affected districts, follow public health directions, and keep departure plans current.
