Do not travel to Congo (Democratic Republic of) due to the Ebola outbreak, armed conflict, and crime.
Do not travel to Congo (Democratic Republic of). An outbreak of Ebola (Bundibugyo virus disease) declared in Ituri Province in May 2026 continues, and the World Health Organization has declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Treatments certified for other Ebola species are of limited use against this strain, health infrastructure is weak, and the outbreak zone overlaps with areas of active armed conflict in the east. Violent crime, kidnapping, and civil unrest occur across the country, and armed groups operate in North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri. Departure options can narrow at short notice as neighbouring states impose border and entry restrictions, and consular support inside the country is effectively absent. Nationals currently in the country should depart while commercial options remain available.
