Philippines — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution when travelling to the Philippines due to active volcanic eruption, terrorism, and natural disasters.
Travellers should exercise increased caution in the Philippines. Mayon Volcano in Albay Province began erupting in early May 2026, with pyroclastic flows on the southwestern flank and ash columns reaching 3,000 metres. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised the alert level to 3, indicating an increased tendency towards hazardous eruption, and nearly 290,000 people have been affected across the Bicol region. Travellers should avoid the 7-kilometre permanent danger zone and the 8-kilometre extended danger zone, and expect flight cancellations, diversions, and ashfall affecting central and southern Luzon. Terrorist groups continue to plot attacks, particularly in the Sulu Archipelago and parts of Mindanao, where travel should be avoided. Typhoons, earthquakes, and seasonal flooding affect the country regularly.
