Thailand — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution when travelling to Thailand due to armed conflict along the Cambodian border and periodic civil unrest.
Travellers should exercise increased caution in Thailand. Armed clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces along the disputed 817-kilometre border in 2025 included fighter aircraft strikes and heavy artillery exchanges, displacing more than 200,000 civilians on both sides. A ceasefire remains in effect but the situation is volatile, with sporadic incidents and unresolved disputes over contested territory. Travellers should avoid the area within 50 kilometres of the Cambodian border, particularly the temple-zone provinces of Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buriram, and Ubon Ratchathani. Demonstrations occasionally occur in Bangkok and other major cities. Elsewhere in the country, exercise normal vigilance for petty crime, road safety, and natural hazards including seasonal flooding.
