Sint Maarten — Exercise Normal Precautions

Sint Maarten is a generally safe constituent country of the Netherlands in the Caribbean, popular with cruise ship visitors.
Sint Maarten is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, occupying the southern portion of an island shared with French Saint Martin. While tourist areas are generally safe, petty crime and occasional violent incidents can occur, particularly after dark in less frequented areas. The island lies within the Atlantic hurricane belt, and the season runs from June to November; Hurricane Irma devastated the island in 2017, and reconstruction has been substantial. The Sint Maarten Medical Center provides adequate care for most conditions. The famous Maho Beach, adjacent to Princess Juliana International Airport, attracts visitors who watch aircraft at close range; travellers should observe all safety warnings in this area, as jet blast poses a genuine danger.
