Saint Martin — Exercise Normal Precautions

Saint Martin (French part) is a generally safe Caribbean collectivity with well-developed tourism infrastructure.
Saint Martin is a French overseas collectivity occupying the northern portion of the island shared with Dutch Sint Maarten. While generally safe, petty crime including pickpocketing and theft from vehicles can occur in tourist areas and on beaches. The island is located in the hurricane belt, and the season runs from June to November; Hurricane Irma caused catastrophic damage in 2017, and the island has since undergone significant reconstruction. The Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital provides medical care, with more complex cases transferred to Guadeloupe. Travellers can move freely between the French and Dutch sides of the island, but should be aware that each side operates under different legal systems.
