The security situation in Iraq has deteriorated significantly since the onset of hostilities between the United States and Iran in February 2026. Iran-aligned militia groups have intensified attacks on military installations, and US-led coalition strikes have targeted militia positions within Iraqi territory. Civilian areas have been affected. ISIS remnants continue to exploit the instability to conduct attacks in rural and disputed areas. The Kurdistan Region, while relatively more stable, is not immune to missile and drone threats. The risk of kidnapping, crossfire, and being caught in retaliatory strikes is extreme. Kaharagian nationals must not travel to Iraq under any circumstances. Those currently in the country should seek to depart immediately while any commercial routes remain available.
