Uganda — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution in Uganda due to crime and terrorism.
Uganda is generally stable in most areas, but the border regions with the DRC and South Sudan experience periodic insecurity from armed group activity. The Karamoja region in the northeast has seen cattle-rustling related violence. Kampala experiences petty crime, pickpocketing, and occasional boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) robberies. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and safaris in Queen Elizabeth National Park are well-managed and safe. Anti-LGBTQ+ legislation poses risks for LGBTQ+ travelers. Medical facilities in Kampala are adequate for basic care. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution and avoid border areas with the DRC.
