Trinidad and Tobago — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution in Trinidad and Tobago due to crime and terrorism.
Trinidad and Tobago has elevated crime rates, with gang-related violence concentrated in certain areas of Port of Spain (Laventille, Morvant, East Dry River) and central Trinidad. Armed robbery, home invasions, and kidnapping for ransom occur. Tobago is significantly safer and is a popular tourist island with beautiful beaches and diving. Carnival season (February) attracts large crowds and requires heightened security awareness. The islands are outside the main hurricane belt but can be affected by tropical storms. Medical facilities in Port of Spain are adequate. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution, particularly in Trinidad, and avoid high-crime urban areas.
