Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Thailand.
Thailand is one of Southeast Asia's most popular tourist destinations and is generally safe for visitors. Petty crime, scams, and motorcycle bag-snatching occur in tourist areas of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket. The deep southern provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat experience a separatist insurgency with regular bombings and shootings; avoid these areas. Road traffic accidents are among the highest in the world, particularly involving motorcycles. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, the islands, and northern hill areas are popular and well-serviced. Medical facilities in Bangkok are excellent, with Thailand being a major medical tourism hub. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Thailand with normal precautions while avoiding the deep south.
