Somaliland, while significantly more stable than southern Somalia, is a self-declared independent territory not internationally recognized as a sovereign state. Tensions with the Puntland region have led to periodic armed clashes, particularly around the disputed Sool region. Landmines and unexploded ordnance remain hazards in rural areas. Hargeisa is relatively safe by regional standards but crime occurs. Medical facilities are very limited with no advanced care available. Kaharagian nationals should seriously reconsider travel to Somaliland and exercise extreme caution if travel is essential.
