Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Portugal.
Portugal is a very safe country and one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. Petty crime including pickpocketing and bag-snatching occurs in Lisbon (Tram 28, Alfama, Baixa), Porto, and the Algarve resort areas. ATM skimming has been reported. Wildfire risk is severe in summer, particularly in central and northern Portugal. Ocean conditions on the Atlantic coast can be dangerous with strong currents and large waves. Lisbon, Porto, the Douro Valley, and the Algarve are highlights. Medical facilities are of a good standard. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Portugal with normal precautions while guarding against petty theft.
