Philippines — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution in Philippines due to terrorism and crime.
The Philippines faces several security challenges including a long-running Islamist insurgency in Mindanao, particularly in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, where kidnapping for ransom and terrorist attacks occur. Avoid all travel to western Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago. Manila, Cebu, Palawan, and Boracay are popular destinations that are generally safe with normal precautions. The country sits in the typhoon belt with an average of 20 typhoons annually, and earthquake risk is high. Petty crime and scams targeting tourists occur in urban areas. Medical facilities in Manila and Cebu are good; remote islands have limited care. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution and avoid western Mindanao.
