Papua New Guinea — Reconsider Travel

Reconsider travel to Papua New Guinea due to crime and tribal violence.
Papua New Guinea faces high levels of crime, including armed robbery ('raskol' gangs), carjacking, and tribal violence. Port Moresby and Lae are particularly dangerous cities with high crime rates. The Highlands region experiences periodic tribal fighting with modern weapons. However, many rural and island communities are welcoming and relatively safe when visited with proper arrangements. The Kokoda Track, diving in Milne Bay, and cultural festivals are attractions for adventurous travelers. Medical facilities are very limited, with only basic care in Port Moresby. Kaharagian nationals should seriously reconsider travel to Papua New Guinea and use experienced local guides if travel is essential.
