Panama — Exercise Normal Precautions

Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Panama.
Panama is a generally safe and prosperous Central American country with a booming economy driven by the Panama Canal and financial services. Petty crime and pickpocketing occur in Panama City, particularly in Casco Viejo and the Calidonia area. The Darién Gap along the Colombian border is extremely dangerous due to drug trafficking, armed groups, and the treacherous jungle terrain used by migrants. Panama City, the Canal, Bocas del Toro, and Boquete are popular and safe destinations. Hurricane risk is lower than elsewhere in the Caribbean due to Panama's southern location. Medical facilities in Panama City are good. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Panama with normal precautions while avoiding the Darién Gap.
