Nepal — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution in Nepal due to crime and political instability.
Nepal is a popular trekking and cultural destination that is generally safe for tourists in Kathmandu Valley and established trekking routes. However, earthquake risk is significant, as demonstrated by the devastating 2015 earthquake. Trekking hazards include altitude sickness (especially above 4,000m), avalanches, and landslides during monsoon season. Political protests (bandhs) can disrupt travel and turn violent. Terai border areas with India occasionally see unrest. The Annapurna and Everest regions are well-established with good trekking infrastructure. Medical facilities in Kathmandu are adequate for basic care; mountain rescue is expensive and limited. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution and ensure trekking insurance covers helicopter evacuation.
