Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Moldova.
Moldova is a safe and affordable Eastern European country that is gaining recognition as a wine tourism destination. Crime rates are low, though petty crime and pickpocketing occur in Chișinău. The breakaway region of Transnistria should be approached with caution (see separate advisory). Wine cellars at Mileștii Mici and Cricova are unique attractions. Infrastructure is basic compared to Western Europe, and roads can be poor. The country has been affected by the spillover effects of the Ukraine conflict, including refugee flows and energy disruptions. Medical facilities in Chișinău are basic. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Moldova with normal precautions while avoiding Transnistria.
