Madagascar — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution in Madagascar due to crime and health concerns.
Madagascar has experienced periodic political crises and civil unrest, and the security situation in the south has deteriorated due to cattle rustling banditry (dahalo). Armed robbery and carjacking occur on roads throughout the country, particularly in the south and on the RN7 highway. Antananarivo has areas of high crime, especially Analakely at night. The island is vulnerable to cyclones (January-March) and plague outbreaks. Tourist sites like Nosy Be and national parks are generally safe with guides. Medical facilities are very limited outside the capital. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution and travel with reputable operators.
