Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Latvia.
Latvia is a safe Baltic EU member state with low crime rates. Riga's historic Old Town is a UNESCO site and popular tourist destination; petty crime and overcharging can occur in the nightlife district. Winter conditions are harsh with icy roads and limited daylight from November to February. The Gauja National Park and coastal town of Jūrmala are popular day trips. Latvia's location on NATO's eastern flank means periodic geopolitical tensions, though these don't affect daily life. Medical facilities in Riga are adequate. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Latvia with normal precautions.
