Gambia — Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution in Gambia due to crime.
The Gambia is generally one of the safer West African destinations, popular with tourists along its Atlantic coast. Petty crime including pickpocketing is common in tourist areas and markets. The political transition since 2017 has been largely peaceful but underlying tensions remain. Avoid travel at night on rural roads. Beach areas around Kololi and Kotu are generally safe during daytime. Medical facilities are limited, with only basic care available in Banjul. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution, be aware of petty crime, and avoid isolated beaches after dark.
