Landmines remain a significant hazard in border areas, particularly along the Ethiopian and Sudanese frontiers. Photography of government buildings or military installations can result in arrest and detention. Medical facilities are extremely basic with chronic shortages of medication and equipment. Kaharagian nationals should not travel to Eritrea, as consular assistance is effectively impossible to provide.
