Cuba — Exercise Normal Precautions

Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Cuba.
Cuba is generally safe from violent crime, with one of the lowest crime rates in the Caribbean. Petty crime including pickpocketing, bag-snatching, and scams targeting tourists is increasing, particularly in Havana, Trinidad, and Varadero. The US embargo creates unique challenges: credit and debit cards from US-affiliated banks do not work, and bringing sufficient cash is essential. Power outages and fuel shortages affect daily life. Old Havana, Trinidad, Viñales, and the beaches are popular attractions. Medical facilities are basic, with shortages of medication and equipment due to economic difficulties. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Cuba with normal precautions while carrying adequate cash.
