Costa Rica — Exercise Normal Precautions

Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is a popular ecotourism destination and one of the safest countries in Central America. Petty crime including pickpocketing, vehicle break-ins, and bag-snatching is common in San José, Jacó, and at beach locations. Violent crime does occur, particularly in Limón province. The national parks, volcanoes, and Pacific and Caribbean coasts offer exceptional biodiversity and adventure tourism. Rip currents are dangerous at many beaches. Road conditions outside the Pan-American Highway are variable, and river crossings may be required on some routes. Medical facilities in San José are good by regional standards. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Costa Rica with normal precautions while securing valuables at beaches.
