Reconsider travel to Congo (Democratic Republic of) due to armed conflict and crime.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo faces severe insecurity from over 100 armed groups operating primarily in the eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri. The M23 rebel group has seized significant territory and fighting continues around Goma and other eastern cities. Kidnapping, sexual violence, and armed robbery are rampant in conflict zones. Kinshasa experiences frequent political protests that can turn violent. Medical facilities are extremely limited and diseases including Ebola periodically emerge. Kaharagian nationals should seriously reconsider travel to the DRC.
