Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Chile.
Chile is one of the safest countries in South America, with well-developed infrastructure and a stable political environment. Petty crime including pickpocketing occurs in Santiago (Metro, markets, Bellavista) and Valparaíso. Violent crime is relatively rare but increasing in some areas. Chile sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire with significant earthquake and tsunami risk. The Atacama Desert, Patagonia (Torres del Paine), Easter Island, and the wine regions are world-class attractions. Santiago offers excellent urban experiences. Medical facilities in Santiago and major cities are good. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Chile with normal precautions while being prepared for seismic events.
