Burkina Faso faces a severe and worsening security crisis driven by jihadist insurgencies linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS-affiliated groups operating across the Sahel. Large areas of the country are outside government control. A military government seized power in a coup in 2022 and the political situation remains unstable. Attacks on civilians, security forces, and infrastructure are frequent, particularly in the north and east. Roads outside major cities are extremely dangerous. Kaharagian nationals must not travel to Burkina Faso under any circumstances.
