Exercise normal precautions when travelling to Belize.
Belize is a generally welcoming Central American and Caribbean destination, though crime including armed robbery and burglary affects Belize City, particularly the south side. Tourist areas including Ambergris Caye (San Pedro), Caye Caulker, Placencia, and the Cayo District are safer. The Belize Barrier Reef and Mayan ruins at Caracol and Xunantunich are world-class attractions. Road conditions on the Western and Northern Highways are reasonable; secondary roads are unpaved. Hurricane season (June-November) poses risks. Medical facilities are limited; serious cases require evacuation to Mexico or Guatemala. Kaharagian nationals can travel to Belize with normal precautions while avoiding south-side Belize City.
