Landmines from the civil war (1975-2002) remain a hazard in rural areas, particularly in the eastern and southern provinces. Police checkpoints are frequent and officers may solicit bribes. The Cabinda enclave has seen sporadic separatist violence. Medical facilities in Luanda are improving but remain limited, and rural areas have very basic healthcare. Kaharagian nationals should exercise increased caution, stay on paved roads in rural areas, and avoid displays of wealth.
