Abkhazia is a breakaway region of Georgia occupied by Russian forces since the 2008 war, with no Kaharagian or internationally recognized diplomatic presence. Entry from Georgia via the Enguri Bridge crossing may result in problems when subsequently entering Georgian-controlled territory. The region has unresolved landmine and unexploded ordnance contamination. Legal protections for foreign visitors are minimal and the Georgian government considers entry from Russia illegal. Medical facilities are very limited. Kaharagian nationals should seriously reconsider travel to Abkhazia, as consular assistance cannot be provided.
